Forgive my tardiness in blogging. I'm catching up.
Back in May, the Festival of Quilts at Heritage Park had two special exhibits. One was trees. Over the years, I have made at least 30 tree quilts so it was a difficult choice. These are the four I chose:
"Ode to Emily Carr".
I really enjoyed this technique; it's mostly fused. I made this after taking a class with Sue Benner. Super easy.
Loved the colours and it's one of my husband's favourites.
"Dream Tree"
This was another experimental quilt. I had a lot of hand-dyed fabric and thought they might work in this project. Originally, I had a bird in a nest on the branch with some butterflies. I took them out and added my swing. I'm a lot happier with it. The quilt was accepted into International Quilt Show in Houson ten years ago.
"Joining Together"
When my oldest son got married to his wife, Teegan, he asked for a very specific quilt. He wanted two trees that were intertwined. He also asked for it to be done in batiks (I was shocked: how did he know about batiks?) My stash had no batiks, so I started from scratch. I really enjoyed creating the diamond background but there were a lot of leaves! I had so many leftovers, I made another tree quilt.
"Bronwyn's Quilt"
This is my latest tree quilt. My friend, Michelle, commissioned me to make a couple of king size quilts fom her parents' clothes. This one was made from her Dad's suits and ties. These were all designer suits and ties and were very difficult to cut up.
