This is Katy, my daughter. She represents “Water”. Katy taught learn to swim, aquasizes, seniors swimming, was a life guard, taught life guarding, and taught water safety to all. That’s why she is “Water”.

Anna represents “Air”. she has an easy breezy way about her and also can play “Wind” instruments.

This was supposed to represent myself in a quilterly way. Not as successful as I hoped, but it was fun to do.

My first attempt at a portrait quilt. This is Katy when she was almost 3. I took the photo for this quilt in 1986, but made the quilt in 2006.

Fraser represents “Fire”. He always holds his own at a campfire and even swings Poi (fire).

My second attempt at a Self Portrait. This time – in my Blue Period.

This was a quilt started in a class with Lura Schwartz Smith. This is my son, Fraser, his wife, Kathleen, and their son, Harrison, when he was an hour old.

This is my husband, Dale. He likes to do woodwork, so I used all ‘wood’ fabrics, even for his Hawaiian shirt.

My first attempt at Anna. I call her Green Girl, because Anna is so into recycling and saving the earth.

Paul is “Earth” because he is my outdoorsy guy. He was a Ecotourism student when I did this quilt. Now, he teaches it.

This is my Dad, the geologist. This quilt is made with ‘rock’ and ‘stone’ fabric.

My Mom was an amazing musician. I made this all out of musical fabric. She really liked this quilt.

This was a wedding present for my nephew, Nathan, and his new wife, Sarah. It took me twice as long as any of the others because I was trying to get the skin colours just right. A lot of work.
I am proud of my portrait quilts. I am grateful to Susan Carlson for teaching me her technique. I have taken four classes from her, three from Sugar Pine in Canmore and once in Kalispell, Montana. I’m also grateful to Susan for letting me share her techniques with others.
